Alejandro Guerrero Caicedo, Ph.D.
Current Fields of Work:
Astrochemistry and Astrobiology:
Coordinator of the research group AstroLUCA, focused on space chemistry and molecular evolution.
Author of scientific articles exploring astrochemical and astrobiological parameters relevant to the estimation of life in the universe.
Organic Chemistry and Molecular Synthesis:
Recent publications on the advanced synthesis of functional molecules, including nitroxide-containing spiroepoxides and their application in polymerization processes.
Science Communication and Education:
Development of educational video content to support medical lectures and enhance student engagement.
Promotes inclusive and innovative strategies for scientific dissemination.
Perspectives for Contribution to the Hub:
I believe I can contribute meaningfully to the Europlanet Colombia Hub through my interdisciplinary background in astrochemistry, molecular synthesis, and science communication. As coordinator of the AstroLUCA Early-stage research team, I have led initiatives focused on the chemical foundations of life and the molecular evolution of organic compounds in space, which are central themes in astrobiology and planetary science. My research in the synthesis of complex functional molecules offers valuable insights for experimental simulations of prebiotic chemistry and the design of space instrumentation. Additionally, I am strongly committed to science education and outreach, including the development of educational video content for both medical and scientific contexts. This work aligns closely with Europlanet’s mission to advance inclusive science communication. By bridging fundamental research with innovative pedagogy, I aim to support outreach programmes in underserved communities and contribute to educational initiatives across Latin America—helping to fulfill the Hub’s objectives of equitable access, interdisciplinary collaboration, and regional capacity building.
