Jonathan Pelegrín Ramírez, Ph.D.

Current Fields of Work:

Biologist specialized in evolution, paleontology, and vertebrate ecology, with research focused on macroevolutionary patterns in birds and mammals in relation to climatic and geological events. Interested in the origin of life and astrobiology, as well as science communication and teaching in natural and exact sciences to promote broader public engagement.

Perspectives for Contribution to the Hub:

As a biologist with a background in zoology, evolution, paleontology, and ecology, I see in the Europlanet Colombia Hub an opportunity to connect my expertise with a broader interdisciplinary network. My research on macroevolutionary patterns in birds and mammals—linked to climatic and geological events—offers a valuable perspective for understanding planetary change and life's resilience across time. I am particularly interested in contributing to the Hub through research on terrestrial analogues, supporting astrobiological exploration, and advancing discussions on the origin and evolution of life. Additionally, I can support educational and outreach efforts by developing strategies that bring planetary science closer to students and the public, using my experience in science communication and the teaching of natural and exact sciences. I believe that fostering collaboration between researchers from different disciplines will strengthen Colombia’s role in the global planetary science community and inspire new generations of scientists in Latin America.
