Mission
To establish a sustainable and inclusive platform that fosters planetary science collaboration between Colombia, Latin America, and the wider Europlanet community, supporting education, innovation, infrastructure development, and ethical engagement.
The Hub directly supports Europlanet’s aim of expanding regional outreach, fostering diversity, and engaging underrepresented countries such as Colombia in planetary science.
To position Colombia as a regional leader in planetary and space sciences, and a strategic bridge between Latin America and Europe, grounded in equity, collaboration, and scientific excellence.
Vision
The Europlanet Hub in Colombia has the potential to become a regional leader in planetary science and astrobiology. It will bring together an interdisciplinary team with expertise in planetary geology, astrobiology, astrochemistry, astronomy, microbiology, computational physics, and science education. Its future activities will include research in extreme environments, the development of space instrumentation, simulations of prebiotic processes, and the training of specialized human talent. Additionally, the Hub will promote science outreach, the inclusion of underrepresented communities, and the strengthening of national and international academic networks. This initiative will expand Latin America’s participation in global scientific programs and contribute to equitable access to knowledge, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the social appropriation of science across the region.
